The Meaning Behind "3 Cups"

3 Cups Ceramics Studio in North Austin

Nestled in a quiet, lush green backyard in North Austin, 3 Cups Ceramics Studio is a family-owned and operated ceramics space designed for creativity, relaxation, and connection. With six pottery wheels and a shady garden, our studio is a place where students of all levels can slow down, reconnect, and discover the joy of clay—again and again.

The Story Behind 3 Cups

For years, I dreamed of building a ceramics studio that brought people together through art. In February, with encouragement from my son, I finally took the leap. His faith in my vision inspired me to take a risk, trust the process, and create the space I had always imagined.

3 Cups Ceramics is more than a pottery studio—it’s a community where collaboration and creativity thrive. It’s a place to spin clay, share stories, and grow together in the practice of ceramics. Whether you’re new to pottery or returning to the wheel after years away, our doors are open.

Why “3 Cups”?

As an art educator, I’m fascinated by symbolism and the way artists communicate visually. When searching for the perfect name for the studio, I wanted something meaningful—something tied to ceramics but also to community.

On the very day my son and I met to discuss names, I pulled tarot cards for inspiration. The card revealed was the Three of Cups, a symbol of creativity, collaboration, and celebration. For me, it perfectly embodied what this studio represents:

  • Community – a gathering place for people who love clay.

  • Creativity – space to explore and express your artistic potential.

  • Connection – celebrating friendship, collaboration, and the joy of making together.

That is the spirit of 3 Cups: a doorway to gather with others, celebrate the process, and create something meaningful with our hands.
